How did Around the Horn Glove Works Inc. come to be?
It started with a "I can do that!" mentality over 3 years ago. As a large supporter of local youth baseball in the Chesapeake, VA area (Deep Creek), when a personal glove was in dire need of some work, we decided to do the work to keep it going vs replacing.
This was the spark.... How is a glove made? How to the different manufacturers design their gloves? Where are the advantages? What are common areas that fail and how can they be fixed? How can we fix them?
The effort goes into putting gloves back on the field vs tossing them for a replacement. This is saving waste and saving money for local kids/families in a tough economy.
It started with basic cleaning and conditioning, then lace repair, then full relace work, and we have learned and fine-tuned skills as we go. We now offer full leather repair in addition to the basics. With professional leather sewing equipment, we are able to replace that cracked worn leather that happen when a glove is used hard over long periods of time. We have developed and built our own pneumatic break in equipment to allow that new glove to be usable faster!
With over 1,200 gloves serviced, we have seen most models, and developed solutions for most repairs.
We love what we do, and if we can keep gloves on the field vs the landfill, and keep a few dollars in your pocket vs replacement, that is our measure of success.
